Our Beliefs

The United Methodist Church is founded on a Wesleyan theology of grace, anchored in Scripture,

and grounded in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ as the Son of God, together with the

continuing movement of the Holy Spirit. We understand salvation as an open gift from God, received

by individuals through God’s grace and accepted in freedom.

As part of our shared Christian and ecumenical heritage, United Methodists use and confess

the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed in common with many other Christian traditions.

These historic creeds express core affirmations of the Christian faith that unite Christians

across denominations.

According to our foundational statement of beliefs in The Book of Discipline, The United Methodist

Church shares the following basic affirmations with other Christian communities: God is the one

true, holy, and living God—Eternal Spirit—Creator, Sovereign, and Preserver of all things visible and

invisible, infinite in power, wisdom, justice, goodness, and love

Our Vision

The United Methodist Church forms disciples of Jesus Christ who,

empowered by the Holy Spirit, love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead

courageously in local communities and worldwide connections.

We passionately love God and, like Jesus, embrace and include

people of every age, nation, race, gender, and walk of life.
